Large soft cover/trade, flat uncreased spine, square clean and tight, xi, 257 pages, Near Fine condition. I hope we hear more from Tyler, and more from creator Drury. In Tyler, Drury has created the sort of straightforward and strong, yet vulnerable heroine that one could envision Jodie Foster playing in a film, though the supporting characters of the novel are also given their depth. The Lake Superior setting of the book is an effective backdrop and allows Tyler to interact with it on both a physical and emotional level. Drury unravels this mystery in a deliciously tantalizing and completely believable way, and the denouement is quite satisfying. Not one to leave a stone unturned, Tyler knows she must resolve and lay to rest once and for all the unrest and secrecy that has haunted her extended family and is now dogging her. She also encounters a number of intriguing characters who may or may not be what they seem, more death, and a mystery buried deep within her own family. That challenge is all Tyler needs, and once back in Minnesota, she feels an unsettling pull to the place she grew up. In Silent Words, she is dealing with the death of her mother, whose last words were to urge her to go home to Minnesota and "shake the skeletons in the closet". Tyler Jones is an independent, intelligent and inquisitive writer for San Francisco-based paper whose instincts often lead her down paths of mysteries, shrouded lies and well-guarded secrets.
